Happy New Year to all!

As we begin 2008, we have the opportunity to reflect on the past and plan for the future. For many, that means New Year’s resolutions like losing a few pounds, spending more time with family, paying down some debt or going back to school to complete your education.

While these are all very worthy endeavors, they pale in comparison with what many of our clients face entering the New Year. Instead of losing a few pounds, their goal is to feed their children nutritious meals on a consistent basis. Instead of paying down some debt, their goal is to be able to provide basic necessities for their loved ones: to keep the gas or electricity turned on; to provide a place to live, clothes on their back, and food on the table. Instead of finishing their degree, they hope to earn their GED or land that job that will pay more than minimum wage.

At Catholic Charities, our New Year’s resolutions focus on finding ways to assist those with the greatest needs in our community; helping them to live fuller and richer lives. For some, this will come in the form of basic and emergency services. For others, it will include working side by side with our clients, helping them reach their fullest potential. And always, it will include advocating on behalf of our clients to change ineffective systems.

Thank you so much for your support and generosity. Your prayers, your time and your financial assistance help us fulfill our mission to serve, empower, and advocate for those in need. And with your continued help in 2008, we can and will make a difference in the lives of our clients and our community.

God Bless.

Jerry C. Pape
Executive Director
