Do you know someone experiencing an unplanned pregnancy?
If you or someone you know is facing an unplanned pregnancy, help is available. An unplanned pregnancy can be stressful. When you call Catholic Charities you will talk to friendly, down-to-earth people who are genuinely interested in being of help to you as you make important choices.
- Parenting
Many who turn to Catholic Charities plan to raise their children. Parenting is a joy as well as a big responsibility. We'll help you and your baby off to a good start with information on pregnancy, delivery, and parenting, as well as provide referrals to community resources. A new baby means new roles for you, the baby's father, and your family. We frequently provide individual, couple, and/or family counseling as clients adjust to their new roles.
- Adoption
If you are considering adoption for your baby, our staff can assist you in a variety of ways. Our counselors are knowledgeable about the life-long issues in adoption. We are able to help you consider adoption through individual sessions, through the use of reading materials and videos and through group meetings, for those who want to participate. Catholic Charities helps to arrange child-centered, open adoptions which honor the needs of the child, the birth parents, and the adoptive parents. Our potential adoptive couples are carefully screened and are qualified to become parents by adoption. We are advised by an attorney-consultant who is skilled in adoption law.
You will be able to choose adoptive parents and together with them form the adoption plan that is right for both families. This dimension is especially important for your peace of mind and well-being.
"My counselor was not judgmental.
She saw to it that I got lots of information so I could make a good decision."
-- ANN, age 16, made an adoption plan
We maintain an ongoing support group for birth parents who have made the choice of adoption. It is not unusual for a client to attend the support group many years after placing her child for adoption. Your counselor will remain available as you adjust to living with your decision.
Our agency is licensed by the State of Nebraska in order to ensure that children benefit from carefully planned adoptions in which the wishes of the involved parties are respectfully considered. Unlike private/independent adoption arrangements, we can offer permanency in preserving important records for future services to you, your child, and the adoptive family.
"I felt it was helpful to talk to a counselor who was calm and not emotionally involved during my decision making."
-- KELLY, age 19, is raising her child
There is no cost to the client or her family for these services.
