About the Shelter

The Shelter is an alternative.  It offers women and their children a safe and secure temporary place to stay.  The Shelter provides battered women the protection, care and the support that they need to regain control and make decisions over their own lives and about their futures.

The Shelter is a secure and home-like place with a confidential location.  It can provide refuge and professional services for six families and four single women at a time.  Length of stay is generally six weeks.

The Shelter is funded in part by the United Way of the Midlands, the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, the Nebraska Division on Alcohol, Drug Abuse and Addictions.

Fees for services are based on the ability to pay.  No one is denied services because of religion, race, age or income.  While The Shelter primarily serves women and children, services are also available to abused men.
