Cars for Kids FAQ
Take Action

What does Cars for Kids do with my donated vehicle?
All of the vehicles that we receive go through an assessment process to determine how we might generate the largest amount of return on the donation. The vehicles are then either offered as a whole unit for continued use or it may be determined that a vehicle is to be offered for its parts value. Proceeds help children of all faiths through the services provided by Catholic Charities.

What does Cars for Kids consider a "drivable" vehicle?
The Cars for Kids Program accepts all vehicles, regardless of mechanical condition. However, for a vehicle to be considered drivable, it must be safe for a person to drive on the highway for 50 miles. Any vehicles not meeting these criteria will be towed at the expense of the Cars for Kids Program.

What information will be on my receipt?
Your receipt will be mailed out to you once the clear title is received into our program office. This receipt will identify you and thank you for your donation of a vehicle to Catholic Charities. It will contain the year, make and model of the vehicle as well as the Vehicle Identification Number.

How much will my tax deduction be?
The Internal Revenue Service allows the donor to take a tax deduction equal to the fair market value of the vehicle up to $500 OR the amount the vehicle is sold for whichever is greater. Donors whose vehicles sell for more than $500 will be mailed a report of the sale once the transaction has been completed.

Can I drop my vehicle off instead of scheduling a pick-up?
Yes, you may drop your vehicle off instead of arranging to have us pick it up. So that we would have prior knowledge of the donation, we ask that you would please contact Deacon David Klein at 402-829-9241 for the address of our drop off site and times of operation.
